China’s Hidden Mountain Paradise — Rainy Drive to Caochuanzi, Shaanxi | 4K
This drive takes you deep into Ningqiang County, Hanzhong, Shaanxi, following County Road X313 from Maobahe Town to the visitor center of Caochuanzi Eco-Wellness Tourism Resort. Although the route is only 13.7 km long, it feels like a slow transition from an ordinary mountain town into a hidden paradise in the Qinba Mountains. Maobahe sits in the southern mountain area of Ningqiang, surrounded by forested slopes, scattered villages, narrow valleys and quiet rural roads. On this overcast and lightly rainy day, the whole route becomes softer, greener and more mysterious than the usual image many people have of Shaanxi. Caochuanzi lies deep inside Maobahe Town. It is a rare highland flatland south of the Qinling Mountains and within the Daba Mountain range, with elevations often described around 1200 to 1900 meters. The area is known for stone forests, valleys, grasslands, peaks, caves, ancient trees and traditional mountain villages. Locally, places like this are sometimes described with a “little Shangri-La” feeling — not the famous Shangri-La in Yunnan, but a remote, peaceful mountain escape hidden in the deep south of Shaanxi. In recent years, the upgraded Maobahe–Caochuanzi tourism road and the development of the eco-wellness resort have made this once-remote area more accessible. Caochuanzi was once a deep mountain village far from the county seat, with limited infrastructure. Today, it is gradually being reshaped by rural tourism, mountain wellness, natural scenery and better road access. The best part of this route is not only the destination, but the journey itself: rainy County Road X313, misty forest, wet village lanes, quiet farmhouses, mountain curves and the feeling of driving closer and closer to a hidden world. It is not a crowded tourist route, but a real rural mountain drive where nature, road construction and everyday village life meet.
