Discover Minerve, France:A Stunning Cliffside Village with a Dark Medieval past #cathars #trebuchet

Here we are in the medieval cliffside village of Minerve SW France . Perched high above two dramatic river gorges. Once a Cathar stronghold during the Albigensian Crusade, todays its celebrated as one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France. With its medieval stone houses, narrow cobbled streets and breathtaking views over the limestone canyons. We visited in January 2025 when the majority of the town was closed and so wanted to return in the summer to see how busy the town would be. It wasn't at all busy but all the restaurants and shops were open which gave it a more welcoming feel. We also visited this time with our Grand Daughter and what a great way to explore. She loved following the yellow footpath signs down to the gorge and up to the replica trebuchet. The Carthar history is all around you from the Ramparts, the Remembrance stone - La stele de minerva ( Dove of light), the Trebuchet perched above the town and La Candela the only tower left from Minerva's old castle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are Andy and Julie and we have just completed a year out travelling across the UK and abroad celebrating our 60th birthdays !!!!
