Thorough Solo Playthrough of Turok 2 COOP Mod on Hard Mode: Level 5 (Hive of the Mantids 1/4)
Continuing on from level 4, I go to the Hive of the Mantids next. Clarifying notes for this run: Every recorded video goes to the next checkpoint in which I save. This is like the old N64 days when you could only save at checkpoints. I will not save at the same checkpoint multiple times, my play/recording is until the next checkpoint with one exception: The exception: There's a Hub that updates every time you beat a level, so I will save there only after I beat each level once. I will only reuse it to save after another level is beaten. I do every level in order. I have hints turned off as to replicate how it was back when it was on the N64. I will not use cheats or exploits to get through levels, only what you can get from playing the game. That said, some mod differences do exist that let you get some stuff early you couldn't in the original. Although rare, I do sometimes get killed. Some parts in the mod are more difficult than they look and I'm not practicing or recording multiple times to make my plays seem flawless. This is me playing, just carefully and slowly. I rewatch my recordings before I record the next one and, occasionally, notice I may have overlooked something. This means at the start of the next recording, you may see me go back real quick to go after what I missed. I try not to miss anything, but it happens. By the time I'm finished with the game, everything should have been found. This recording is about the original Turok 2 maps and final boss. There are extra maps once you beat the main game the mod adds. I'm not sure if I'll include videos and recording on those yet. I'll decide later. I'm playing on a controller which doesn't seem to let me do the actual diagonal movement/jumps. This level: This level is the most challenging level so far. I kind of feel like this is the most difficult level in the whole game. It's big, but I still feel a bit smaller than level 4 (but still larger than the others). The enemies might not look big and tough like level 3, but they hit hard and fast, plus can be a huge pain in the butt to hit. You have turrets that will very quickly kill you if you're not careful and destroy them quickly. You have annoying mite spawns these holes inside the wall you blast to stop. Mites are actually quite weak, not nearly as dangerous as the spiders, but unless you kill their spawns, they're endless and that's a problem. Oh, and I might also say the boss is also very difficult, much more so than level 4's boss. The enemies spawning and swarming on top of a powerful boss make you lose HP quickly, for me, it was just a rush to kill the boss as fast as I could to beat it without wasting a ton of lives. Despite all this, you get pretty much the remainder of the weapons in the game, except for razor wind (sadly), alongside plenty of HP and ammo spawns. So this level is doable, but I had to take it slowly and cautiously to survive. It also has a lot of destructibles, while it doesn't necessarily unlock anything that I can tell like the birds in the Port of Adia, I did notice several times, I'd rewatch my recording and see I missed an egg in the ground where I'd go back at the start of the next video to destroy it. For missables, I'd say the easiest ones to miss are whenever you have destructible walls that blend too much with the regular walls. Your map is your best friend at locating them all. And while life force are a bit of a hint, there's a climbable wall without anything on it that tells you it's climbable very late towards the end of the level. So numerous of those difficult to find missables aren't even secrets. I noticed rewatching my recording, I completely overlooked one and had to go back in the next set of videos to get it before entering Primagen's Lightship. The Oblivion token is pretty easy to get compared to all the others, it's just very easy to overlook that opening in the wall and, until you get it, you might not know how you're going to get back up.
