One day, the two achieve a breakthrough and are able to complete a prototype for the new generation of robots. When activated, the robot immediately begins to destroy the two scientists' laboratory. Dr. Light believes that the problem lies in the computer control system that Dr. Wily had developed and demands that Dr. Wily destroy the plans for future robot prototypes. In a fit of anger, Wily steals the plans and disappears without a trace. Years later, Dr. Light and his androids Rock and Roll present their new generation of robots at a robot trade fair. These include Guts Man, who is intended to help out on construction sites, Cut Man, who is to be used for gardening, and Ice Man, who is to provide cooling in tropical areas. The trade fair is attacked by Dr. Wily and his robot Proto Man, as Dr. Wily has destroyed all of Dr. Wily's robots. Light to help him seize world domination, which he ultimately succeeds in doing. To counter the threat posed by Dr. Wily, Rock allows Dr. Light to transform him into Mega Man and begins to cleanse the world of Dr. Wily and his Robot Masters. Production & Release: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Although Capcom had three pilot episodes for the series produced in the early 1990s, which were not released until 2002 under the title Rockman: Hoshi ni Negai wo (ロックマン 星に願いを; English title: "Mega Man/Megaman: Upon a Star"), they decided against the anime style and produced a series in a 1980s retro style. The series was originally aimed exclusively at boys, but after it was noticed that many girls were tuning in just for Roll, they were given more of a spotlight during the second season. At the end of the second season, characters from the spin-off games of the Mega Man series were also introduced, such as Mega Man X, Vile, Spark Mandril, and Sigma (spelled as Cigma in the series). The plan was to give the characters a larger role in the third season and, if successful, also create their own "Mega Man X" animated series. However, plans for a third season and the spin-off were dropped due to Capcom having problems with its merchandise partner Bandai and being unwilling to continue funding the series. There hasn't been a German DVD release yet, although there were four retail VHS tapes containing two episodes of the series in the 1990s.
