In this video, I argue that Gabrielle Lioncourt is the emotional centre of Lestat's story. Rather than treating their relationship as something that begins with vampirism, I look at how The Vampire Lestat portrays a childhood shaped by emotional neglect, parentification, enmeshment and abuse, and how those experiences become the foundation for every major relationship Lestat has afterwards. Using attachment theory and betrayal trauma research, I explore why Lestat struggles to recognise abuse when it happens to him. From Magnus to Gabrielle, Nicki to Louis, this is a character study of how trauma shapes the way Lestat understands love, companionship and himself.
