But engineering is very different from something like the IAS. The entrance exam is only the first hard gate. There's a second gate that comes later, and it's just as difficult, perhaps even more so. In this video, I talk about both of these failure gates - and, more importantly, how to get through each of them well. The first gate is getting in, and the real problem at a tier-2 or tier-3 college isn't a lack of placements - it's a lack of inspiration, surrounded by students and professors who've quietly given up. I explain why the "just shift to computer science" escape doesn't work, share a lesser-known route, and how to make an honest choice at the end of Class 11 about whether JEE is even for you. Then I lay out the exact four-year playbook - programming fundamentals in year one, data structures and algorithms in year two, real public projects and hackathons in years three and four, and interview prep to walk in ready to deliver from day one. Finally, I get to the second gate - the job hunt - because in 2025, 30 to 35% of IIT graduates were unplaced at graduation, and most of the rest landed roles just as ordinary as any other college.
