A museum and educational program as part of the exhibition "Becoming Romanov. Upbringing and Education in the Imperial Family." The mentor of Tsarevich Alexander Nikolaevich, the poet V. A. Zhukovsky, considered the development of "a high quality of the human soul—a sense of beauty—to be one of the most important components of education. In the educational plan he developed for the heir to the Russian throne, a significant role was assigned to "pleasant talents": drawing, music, and reading. These subjects were to be studied alongside the basic sciences, fostering the development of children's natural abilities. The lecture will discuss the literary preferences of the children of Emperor Nicholas I, who and how taught them the fine arts, which of the Grand Dukes and Duchesses excelled in musical instruments, and which demonstrated their talents in drawing and painting.
