Title: TCR Genetics Description: This learning object studies the genetics of the T cell receptor and somatic recombination. Sirera Pérez, R. (2017). TCR Genetics. https://riunet.upv.es/handle/10251/83205 DER Automatic description: This video addresses the genetics of the T cell receptor (TCR), explaining how diversity arises in the immunological repertoire of this receptor. It explains that there are specific genes that code for the alpha and beta chains, as well as for the gamma and delta chains of the TCR, and that each T lymphocyte clone possesses a unique TCR, which contributes to an immunological repertoire capable of recognizing a wide range of antigens. It highlights that, although there is a limited number of genes, immense diversity of TCRs can be generated thanks to the genetic rearrangements that occur in the variable regions of the genes, especially during the process of somatic recombination. TCR genes are located on different chromosomes and contain variable segments, including diversity and joining segments, which vary in number and, through recombination, result in a potential of millions of possible TCR combinations. Finally, it is clarified that somatic recombination is essential for generating the diversity of the immune repertoire, and that the VDJ mechanism is responsible for the production of approximately six million different alpha-beta TCRs.
