PROJECT 1918 - M1917 Engine Fire? Episode: 01

Get a closer look at the two vehicles we are restoring for PROJECT 1918: The Nash Quad 4x4 Ammunition Carrier and the M1917 6-ton Light Tank, both built in 1918. This is the first episode in our dedicated restoration series documenting the full journey of these two First World War vehicles — from their starting condition through to their final public roll-out into the Tank Arena. In this episode, you’ll meet Nigel, Project Manager for the M1917 restoration, as he walks us through the vehicle’s current condition. You’ll also meet Ross, a new member of the museum’s restoration team, who specializes in antique and historical equipment. We take a closer look at evidence of an engine fire in the M1917 that occurred in the 1960s, along with other key details uncovered during the early inspection phase. Both vehicles served in interesting roles after the war, with service histories tied to both the United States and Canada — stories we’ll continue to explore throughout the series.
