Mulcair Large Salmon Run 1990's

Large run of peal entering the Mulcair at Annacotty Co Limerick. The Mulcair was once one of the most prolific rivers in the country. While the decline in Atlantic Salmon is occurring worldwide it is being accelerated on the Mulcair by total mismanagement of the fishery which includes lack of adequate protection.This mismanagement has only occurred since IFI took over the management of the fishery on subcontract from the ESB. Mulkearlife project spent 1.7 million of EU funds and has in our opinion failed to make any impact on the fishery with regards improving salmon stocks. In our opinion the MulkearLife project has had a negative impact on the fishery rather than a positive.
