A German-Style Wooden Passive House We visited Incheon in search of a house where one can live without worrying about gas or electricity bills. From the outside, it looks like a simple, rectangular wooden house, making it seem like an ordinary passive house. However, it is said to be a special home that has received certification from Germany, known for its strict standards, as a 1.3L house. Even upon entering, it is entirely wood! Only wood is visible up to the ceiling, which reaches 8 meters in height. Upon closer inspection, however, there is graffiti on the walls—which lack wallpaper or paint—and the electrical wiring is exposed!? Typically, while building the frame takes one month, interior finishing takes two months. The young couple, who had to gather every last bit of their soul to build this house, boldly omitted interior finishing to reduce construction time and costs. For the exterior walls as well, they chose a method where materials were pre-cut at a factory, and a single side was constructed as a whole and then assembled to be installed! Thanks to this, they were able to save on labor and material costs. However, as befits a passive house, they spared no expense in terms of functionality. They selected eco-friendly wood that is convenient even without separate finishing, and strictly prohibited the use of chemical adhesives like glue! Instead, they connected the wood using only screws, with over forty different types of screws alone. Thanks to this, the house is 100% eco-friendly, to the point where it can be rebuilt exactly as it was even after demolition. Within a limited budget, the couple maximized the house's performance while making a choice that protects both their family and the planet.
