93-year-old Oleksiy Fomych left the front-line town of Rodynske on foot. Fighting has been going on for this town north of Pokrovsk since August. Since Russian DRGs were recorded there, evacuation groups no longer go there. Before the invasion, almost 10,000 people lived in Rodynske, now Oleksiy Fomych — one of the last residents — has left his hometown. He had to walk seven kilometers to the nearest Bilytsky, from where an evacuation group was supposed to take him. “It’s a pity: there are only bees left in the garden, six cans of honey, and the dog is still there,” the grandfather says in the evacuation car. Tears well up in his eyes from what he has experienced. — My wife and I got an apartment, arrived, two children. We just lived to the point where we have everything. And again, I have nothing.” Until recently, volunteer and chaplain Leonid Nomerchuk, who takes Alexey Fomych, evacuated people from Pokrovsk to Bilytske, a quieter front-line town. But in August, the front rapidly approached here too: fighting is raging on the outskirts of Rodynske, and at the same time, Bilytske is becoming less and less habitable due to frequent shelling. Here, the Russians are forming a northern claw to surround Pokrovsk, so they are throwing a lot of forces at these towns. Seven thousand people lived in Bilytske before the invasion. Now dozens of people who remain here are approaching Leonid and the policemen from the “White Angels” on the street and asking to evacuate them. So, in the evacuation car with Alexey Fomych, other local residents are hastily packing their belongings and asking to take them out. One of them is Mr. Vasyl. His house was destroyed, and he barely managed to get out from under the rubble. “When it exploded, the dog’s eyes popped out. I was showered with glass and frames at one in the morning. I slowly climbed out, went to my friend who lives two houses away, and said, ‘Thank God I’m alive.’” After the shock, Vasyl was left homeless, so he asks to be taken to a safer place. Despite the fact that Russian drones are lurking above the road and even aiming at the volunteers’ cars, the “White Angels” are still trying to break into the frontline Bilytske once again to save as many people as possible.
