Indianapolis 500 Track Drive with Wilber Shaw 1949 A Neglected Track?
1949 was the first year that the race was televised as an experiment, reaching 3000 local homes. The only revenue from the track in those days was from ticket sales for the Memorial Day classic. The new television era would begin to bring in major cash in the upcoming years. The track looks like a country road in places! Wilber Shaw won the 500 3 times before becoming the track president.
