(13) PEÓN PASADO: Pillsbury vs Gunsberg, Hastings 1895 (última ronda)

Here is the game that decided the winner of the Hastings tournament: Pillsbury vs. Gunsberg. It's part of the list that appears in the "Passed Pawn" chapter of Drazen Marovic's book, "Understanding Pawn Play in Chess." Here, the passed pawn appears on the c-file (an almost central file), and as mentioned before, the appearance of this pawn in the endgame, on central files, isn't necessarily advantageous, because they are easier to block. However, in this spectacular endgame, a tactical theme emerges: the double pawn attack. Furthermore, an almost legendary pawn endgame also appears... Remember that I'm also learning... and sometimes I go off on tangents trying to see the whole picture with the opening, middlegame, and endgame. Although this material is part of the classes I teach, I also use it to have fun with chess: you can always expand on and reinforce what you've learned before and do it with enjoyment.
