GreenWaste Recovery | San Jose's Unique "Loose" Yard Waste Collection (1)

Hey guys! After all of this time, I got off my ass and finally managed to capture one of San Jose's most infamous & unique collection methods; the rear loader & Tink Claw tractor. How this system works differs from almost every other method of yard waste collection out there. You have two options to dispose of yard waste; create piles in the street, or pay a flat fee of $5 a month for a yard waste cart, regardless of size. The nice thing about loose-in-the-street collection is that you can have a large amount of yard waste disposed of at once. There's no having to call for an extra collection or waiting annually for a bulky-item-pickup, like some other cities. Plus, you're not charged any extra fees for creating piles. Basically, it's free weekly unlimited yard waste pickup. You would be surprised at the amount of yard waste that is produced just from the piles. On some days, they have to essentially "shuttle" trucks to and from the yard if the load volumes are really high. Basically a "shuttle driver" comes from the yard with an empty truck, and they relieve the route driver of their full truck by leaving them with the empty truck, while the full truck is taken to be unloaded by the shuttle driver. On even larger days, you may even have up to 6 vehicles on ONE route (3 rear loaders, 3 tractors) to alleviate the load volume on one crew. This video was filmed over two weeks (with all 3 trucks being shuttle trucks), so there was a lot of yard waste out. However, the drivers just kept on pushing through. The awesome attitude and enthusiasm from them also helps a lot, so big thanks to them for always being cool with the cameras. Thank you to all of the drivers featured for allowing me to film!
