Solo Hiking Into One of PA’s Best Kept Secrets.
Last fall, I set out solo to explore a trail I’d been meaning to check off the list for a while—Beartown Rocks in Clear Creek State Forest. Tucked into the rugged hills of northwestern Pennsylvania, this 3.9-mile out-and-back trail climbs through dense pine forests, mountain laurel thickets, and rocky terrain before reaching a stunning overlook above the Allegheny Plateau. But the real surprise? The massive sandstone boulders scattered across the ridgetop—some as tall as a house. It felt like I stumbled into Pennsylvania’s own natural rock city, and the timing couldn’t have been better. The forest was absolutely lit up with peak fall color, and I had the place almost entirely to myself. In this video, I’ll take you along for the hike—complete with quiet stream crossings, scenic forest corridors, and a climb that’s steep in spots but well worth the effort. I also explore the rocks and hidden paths near the overlook, showing why Beartown Rocks is one of the most underrated fall hikes in the state. Whether you're planning a trip to Clear Creek, looking for fall hiking inspiration, or just want to see one of the coolest hidden spots in Pennsylvania, this trail delivers. Trail Info: Length: 3.9 miles (out and back) Location: Clear Creek State Forest, near Sigel, PA Trailhead: Park near Shelter 5 or Corbett Road Difficulty: Moderate Best Time to Visit: October for fall foliage Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more hikes and hidden gems across Pennsylvania and beyond.
