1861 Springfield Rifled Musket | Pedersoli | Civil War Muzzleloader
The 1861 Springfield was the muzzle loader of choice for the Union soldiers during the American Civil War. The 40" barreled, .58 caliber rifled musket weighed in at around 9 pounds and had an effective range between 200 and 500 yds for man sized targets. The 1861 was an upgrade from the 1855 model that had the Maynard Tape primers that were more susceptible to wet weather than the musket caps used on the 1861 Springfield. A well trained Soldier was capable of getting off about 3 rounds per minuet with pretty deadly accuracy. The 3 leaf sights were set at either 100, 300 or 500 yds but 1000yd shots are not beyond this rifles capability. Around 1 million of the Springfields were produced between 1861 and 1865 at a cost of about $14.50 each. C&C Sutlery, Civil War reenactors clothing: https://www.ccsutlery.com/store/ccsut...
