Что такое постимпрессионизм? Три великих гения: Винсент Ван Гог, Поль Сезанн и Поль Гоген.
Post-Impressionism—this term describes not a single movement, but rather a time and an entire family of movements that emerged from Impressionism and that would later lay the foundation for all subsequent painting movements and shape art as we know it today. In pre-Impressionist times, the sole goal of art was to copy reality as closely as possible to the original. Brushstrokes in paintings were made as thin and seamless as possible, so that it was hardly noticeable that the image was created by a brush. Artists strove to create a perfectly identical copy of reality, competing with each other in their mastery of cloning what they saw before their eyes. Impressionism broke the mold. It separated brushstrokes, making each one part of a unique mosaic created by the artist here and now. It added color to shadows, declaring that light (morning, sunset, or candlelight) also has a hue, and that it colors objects just as well as their own. Impressionism achieved a crucial feat: it broke the centuries-old dam of academic conservatism, which had dammed up the stagnant waters of creativity and withered in the absence of new ideas. But most importantly, Impressionism, through its success and incredibly persistent struggle, showed other artists that it was possible and necessary to have the courage to create differently. That art was just beginning, and that its development could take many forms—all that was needed was to find an idea that could change the art world. Can you imagine the incredible impact this had on those still developing? Who was full of new ideas but hesitated to take this path for fear of failure? We are approaching one of the most turbulent and interesting periods in the development of art, which followed Impressionism. It is called Post-Impressionism.
