Scientific studies suggest the remains belong to genetically diverse groups who died in separate events, some dating to around 800 CE and others to 1800 CE, possibly due to a severe hailstorm. Trek Difficulty: The trek is generally considered moderate to difficult and is recommended for experienced trekkers due to the high altitude and rugged terrain. Highlights: The trek features dense oak and rhododendron forests, vast high-altitude alpine meadows (Ali and Bedni Bugyal), and breathtaking views of peaks like Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. How to Reach Base Camp: The trek generally starts from Lohajung, which is a motorable village. By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport (DED) in Dehradun, approximately 195 km from the base camp area. By Train: The nearest major railway station is Kathgodam (KGM), from where one can take a taxi or bus to Lohajung. By Road: Lohajung is well-connected by motorable roads. The route from Kathgodam passes via Almora, Kausani, and Gwaldam. The final journey to the lake is a multi-day trek.
