When the war in Ukraine escalated in february 2022 with the invasion of Russian forces, Semin Yildiz quit his job and joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces. With his previous military experience in the Swedish Army, Semin took part in heavy fighting around Kyiv and Irpin, surviving Russian artillery barrages and street fighting.
