Universal Earnings Show Softness In The Theme Parks This Summer

Comcast just dropped their Q2 earnings report and the Universal Parks numbers are... interesting. On the surface, $2.4 billion in theme park revenue sounds incredible. And it is. But there's more to the story than just the top line number, and that's exactly what we're breaking down in this video. Revenue was up 2.7% compared to Q2 of last year, which is great. Epic Universe opened and it absolutely played a role in driving more guests to Orlando. But here's the catch: adjusted EBITDA actually dropped 5.1%. Operating costs went up. International parks pulled things down. And Comcast's own co-CEOs used the phrase "near-term softness" to describe where things stand right now. On the earnings call, Mike Cavanagh went even further and said the operating environment "has softened more than we anticipated." That's a pretty candid thing to say about a brand new park that just opened. So what does all of this actually mean for Universal fans? Is this a short term bump in the road or something to pay closer attention to? We get into all of it.
