Coffee Fantasy, Op.1 for Clarinet and Piano

Composer: Julian Kwoun Clarinet: 최강 (Choi Kang) Piano: Julian Kwoun Today is my Birthday!! To celebrate this special day of mine, I would like to finally present to you all my first Opus composition! Just a quick reminder that this is not my first completed work, but my first work that I probably felt satisfied to have started my own Opus catalogue which is still going strong till this day. (Op.42 as of this date) This work was commissioned early 2013 by a fellow student majoring animation during my first year of arts high school. The animation has coffee beans moving around depicting how coffee is made from the beans itself to a mug that we drink from. Because the animation was around a minute and a half, my original music started from the 2/4 time (swing) but only for piano solo. After a few months, our once per semester 'mandatory performance' kicks in and I was out of ideas what to write and perform for. Hence this is where my laziness kicks in and I take my already written 'Coffee' and and a slow half section, also adding clarinet because Kang, one of my most enthusiastic musician at the time kept torturing me for a piece of his own. I contact him early this year for a "recreation" of our collab. long ago, and he has gracefully agreed to do so! Once again, I am very happy that I got to do this with him, and more excited to bring you all more of my stuff in the near future, thank you!! #composition #clarinet #coffee 오늘은 제 생일입니다!! 이 뜻깊은 날을 맞이하여 제 첫 작품 번호를 드디어 소개합니다! 물론 제가 완성한 첫 작품은 아니지만, 그래도 나름 마음에 들었는지 저만의 작품 번호 카탈로그를 매기게 되었고, 그 후로 지금까지 잘 이어오고 있습니다. (현재 Op.42) 2013년 초 예술고등학교 고1 시절, 만화창작과 선배가 1분 30초의 짧은 애니메이션을 보여주고 배경 음악을 부탁합니다. 애니메이션은 수많은 커피콩이 빠르게 움직이면서 우리가 즐겨 마시는 커피가 만들어지는 과정을 보여줍니다. 사실 배경 음악 원곡은 악보상 2/4 박자표 swing부터 시작했었고, 피아노 독주를 위한 곡이었습니다. 몇 주 지나서 저희 음악과 학생들에게 항상 주어지는 '향상 음악회'를 위해 곡을 써야 하는데 아이디어 고갈로, 이미 작곡한 커피 곡 앞에 느린 부분을 추가하고, 클라리넷도 추가하게 되는데, 이유는 최강 선생님께서 당시 자기를 위한 곡을 꼭 써달라고 저를 많이 괴롭혔습니다. ㅎㅎ 놀랍게도 당시 초연 영상을 저희 아버지가 몰래 찍어주시고 유튜브에 올라와 있습니다! (   • Fantaisie Coffee - by Julian Kwoun  ) 13년이 지난, 저는 더욱 복잡한 음악을 작곡하고, 최강 선생님은 결혼한 지 1년 조금 안 됐고, 학교 음악 선생님이 되기 위한 엄청난 노력을 하고 있습니다. 올해 초 "우리 다시 녹음 하자!" 말했을 당시 흔쾌히 받아주었고, 저희는 정말 초심으로 돌아가는 느낌으로 녹음을 잘 마쳤습니다. 무엇보다 여러분께 제 척 작품 번호를 발표하는 데 큰 의미를 두고, 앞으로 더 많은 작품 기대해 주시면 감사드리겠습니다!!
