"I'm an alcoholic" Then ask: "But what if those aren't identities? What if they're old survival strategies no longer helpful to who you are now or wanting to become?" "That's just who I am." What if it isn't? Today's Stability Moment™ explores one of the biggest shifts I've experienced in understanding how our brains work. Many of the identities we carry today began as coping strategies that once helped us survive. Over time... those strategies became habits. Those habits became subconscious programming. And eventually... we began believing they were who we are. But... what if they aren't? That's a humungorungus question! Becuase... what if the identity that once protected you no longer serves the life you're trying to create? You don't have to declare war on who you were to become who you're becoming. You don't have to reject your past as there's NO SHAME there. It was a tool that was helpful when it was first used. It's simply a tool you can switch for another that is more helpful for where you are now but... You can appreciate how it helped you then... while consciously building a new future...now. You may see see the people pleaser, the perfectionist, the procrastinator, the avoider, the overachiever, the angry one, the "I'm just shy" story... Not as broken identities.
