Tanigawa with remaining snow in early May is still a magnificent snowy mountain. You can go up to a certain altitude by ropeway, and the altitude itself is less than 2,000m, so many people think it is an easy mountain. It is true that the Tenjin Ridge route is easy to recommend to those who are new to snowy mountains. However, that is only if you are fully equipped. Due to the unique topography of Mt. Tanigawa, the weather is prone to sudden changes, and the steep climb just below the shoulder hut is quite dangerous. The Nishikuro Ridge route, which is counted as one of the three steepest climbs in Japan, is even more dangerous. I have no idea what to say if someone says, "You're wearing a tank top," but how about we take another look at our equipment and skills? Parking is also free at the Tanigawadake Information Center, located between the Shirakemon trailhead and Tanigawadake Yoho (formerly the Tanigawadake Ropeway) Station. The center opens at 9:00, but in the summer, the back half of the parking lot is available 24 hours a day for climbers. Parking at Tanigawadake Yoho Station costs 500 yen a day. At night, only the first floor of the multi-storey car park is open (approximately 40 cars).
