Matemática: del diccionario al Principito | Alejandro Kocsard | TEDxRosario
What did you want to be when you grew up? An astronaut, a firefighter, a doctor, a soccer player… but you probably didn't dream of being a mathematician. In this talk, Alejandro invites us to dismantle our prejudices about the most misunderstood of disciplines by showing us the contradictions that surround it, while making us question our own common sense and leaving us wondering: Aren't we starting to read the book from the end? Mathematician, professor, researcher. Alejandro always dreamed of traveling and seeing the world, but he knew that with sports, it would be difficult. Then, when he was in sixth grade, he learned that the finals of the Mathematical Olympiad could be held in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, or Mar del Plata; and that there were even international stages. He didn't hesitate for a second. He wasn't particularly talented in the exact sciences, but the consequences of that innocent decision eventually led him to earn a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the National University of Rosario and a PhD from the National Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics in Rio de Janeiro. A Rio native and Rosario resident, he has lived in Rio for 13 years and is a professor at the Federal Fluminense University and a researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
