Los nuevos retos de la educación | César Bona | TEDxBarcelona
Educating new generations is everyone's responsibility, and in this task, children must be the protagonists of their own learning. All subjects are important, but it is necessary to incorporate values education into the school curriculum, such as respect and tolerance, and to emphasize emotional intelligence. As César reminded us, the human factor (an essential aspect for personal development) is much more relevant than standardized evaluation criteria based on numerical grades. Let's not forget that children are naturally curious beings. We must acquire the habit of listening to them and allowing them to express themselves, blurring the child-adult/teacher hierarchy and beginning to speak to them as equals. Only in this way do we learn together from one another. César already warned us: "A person stops learning not because they grow older, but because they stop being curious." Stay Curious! The only Spanish finalist among the 50 best teachers in the world for the Nobel Prize in Education. César has written plays to teach 10-year-olds to read; he became a tutor for a Roma child to combat truancy; he made a silent film to reunite two children and their families who weren't speaking to each other; he produced a documentary to encourage children to respect and value the elderly; and he created a virtual animal shelter run by children that now has thousands of followers worldwide. He has received national and international awards for fostering creativity, innovation, and sustainability in education and believes in teaching that goes beyond books and teacher guides. He envisions an education that empowers, inspires, and, through emotions and experiences, brings out the best in the children of the future. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
