To support the food sovereignty and water security program in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) completed the construction of the Raknamo Dam in Kupang Regency in 2018 and the Rotiklot Dam in Belu Regency in 2019. Water availability is key to development in NTT, which has lower rainfall than other regions. Dam construction must also be accompanied by the development of irrigation networks. This way, the dam, even though it was constructed at great expense, can be beneficial because the water is guaranteed to flow to farmers' rice fields. The key to prosperity in NTT is water. To that end, the government built the Rotiklot Dam. "With this water, perhaps once a year, we can now harvest two or three times a year. Previously, we couldn't grow anything, but now we can grow anything." The Rotiklot Dam is one of 49 new dams built between 2015 and 2019. The dam's groundbreaking was conducted by Jokowi on December 28, 2015. To improve water and food security in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), through the Nusa Tenggara II River Basin Office (BPWP), Directorate General of Water Resources (DGW), is gradually increasing the number of water reservoirs in NTT Province. The existence of water reservoirs such as dams and reservoirs is crucial because the rainy season in NTT is very short, lasting 3-4 months. Construction on the Raknamo Dam began in January 2015. The project was completed a year earlier than the January 2019 target, completing it in December 2017. Jokowi's first dam has a capacity of 16 million cubic meters of water and can irrigate 1,250 hectares of land. The dam also serves as a source of raw water for Kupang Regency, producing 100 liters per second, and is capable of generating 0.22 megawatts of electricity.
