Roaring 20s in London: Alfredo & His Band - My Inspiration Is You, 1928

Alfredo & His Band – My Inspiration Is You, Fox-Trot (Leslie-Nicholls) with Vocal Chorus, Edison Bell Radio, 1928 (UK) NOTE: ALFREDO (real name Alfred Gill) - a British bandleader and violinist, born in 1892, who performed in London restaurants and dance halls in the 1910s as "Alfredo, the Vagabond Violinist." In 1922, he joined Jack Hylton's orchestra as a violinist and in 1925 formed his own dance band. His orchestra quickly gained popularity, and in 1928, Alfredo signed a contract to perform at the fashionable New Princes restaurant in the West End. During the 1920s, Alfredo recorded numerous very good dance sides for the Edison Bell and Winner labels, which are now sought after by collectors as pure examples of the fervent dance style of the European Roaring Twenties. However, in 1930, his orchestra disbanded, and Alfredo completely changed his musical profile, forming Alfredo And His Famous Gypsy Band, composed primarily of authentic Gypsy musicians and once again enjoying considerable popularity in Britain. The music is accompanied by a presentation of several outstanding British Art Deco posters.
