Can a Pro Thrower master this Ancient Weapon?
Atlatls are prehistoric hunting weapons that use a small stick to increase the speed and leverage of a throw allowing long slender darts to be thrown fast and accurately. Thousands of years ago they were used all over the planet, but fell out of use in Western Europe, but continued to be used up to the present day in Australasia, Africa and the Americas. I am mostly interested in Western European history, but every time our resident spear thrower Micheal Allison throws anything for the channel we are inundated with requests for him to use an atlatl, so you ask and we deliver! In honesty I don't know enough about them to make one well, so I bought a modern one for him to test and the results and opinions from a pro-thrower are truly interesting.
