South African law enforcement agencies have intensified their crackdown on illegal mining, resulting in the arrest of 217 suspects during Operation Prosper at the Losberg Kloof Mine in Westonaria. According to police, the operation involved SAPS, the SANDF and other security partners. Authorities said many of those arrested are suspected of being undocumented foreign nationals, while identity and immigration status verification continues.
