🔴JUST IN:Sen. Cayetano Questions NBI Matibag Witness VP Sara Impeachment Trial Update Escudero Tulfo

The Supreme Court of the Philippines.The Senate has postponed the prosecution's request to early present NBI Director Melvin Matibag as a witness in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte after the defense and several senator-judges opposed it.According to the prosecution, they want Matibag to testify on July 14 because he will be leaving on July 20 to attend a regional summit organized by the FBI and Royal Thai Police.However, Senate President Francis Escudero said they will first study Matibag's letter before making a decision. While no decision has been made, the court continued the testimony of NBI Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc.Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, and Duterte's camp opposed the request, saying it could set a bad precedent and violate the agreed-upon five-day notice rule, which states that witnesses must be notified five days before they are to be called so that the defense and the senator-judges can prepare.Matibag is expected to testify regarding Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment, which deals with Duterte's alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
