Heguri Island, located in Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Population: 241 (as of June 2023) Heguri Island lies about 20 km south. A long, narrow island in the Iyo Nada Sea. It is the largest unbridged island in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The island's name comes from the fact that Kiso Yoshinaka's son, Hegurimaru (note: "gun" rather than "gun"), fled to the island during the Kamakura period and settled there. The village is filled with houses surrounded by sturdy stone walls, and the old townscape remains, giving it a charming atmosphere. The people are warm, and smiles and greetings are everywhere. The island is divided into Heguri East and Heguri West, depending on the ferry terminal. Even within the same island, it takes a 40-minute ferry ride to travel between the east and west, making it a bit far. This time, we'll be taking a walk on Heguri East.
