Many people come to Israel expecting a new life. But what happens when the romance ends and reality sets in? In this episode, my guest is Andrey Smetanenko. We're not talking about the pretty picture of Israel, the tourist's perspective, or the usual slogans, but about what happens to a person after moving. Why do many people's expectations of Israel not match reality? Why do people here often live in constant tension and eventually stop noticing it? Why do repatriates become more assertive? Why do Russian speakers in Israel often react so sensitively to criticism? And the main question: do we really live here, or are we just used to putting up with it? This is an attempt to honestly discuss complex topics that many only discuss among themselves: adaptation, disappointment, everyday reality, stress, love for the country, criticism of Israel, and the inner state of people who live for years between attachment to Israel and weariness with it. I don't always agree with the guest; sometimes I argue and ask difficult questions, because the goal of this episode is not to confirm one point of view, but to try to understand what life in Israel really does to people.
