Jewish Partisans - Living and Surviving in the Partisans: Shelter

During World War II, 20,000-30,000 Jewish resistance fighters -- partisans - escaped ghettos and fought against the Germans and their collaborators. Building, maintaining, and living in make-shift shelters despite the weather and the constant threat of discovery, either by the Germans or by their collaborators, was a form of resistance in and of itself. In conjunction with the upcoming release of Defiance, a Paramount Vantage film directed by Ed Zwick and starring Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber, which tells the story of the Bielski partisans, the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation is broadcasting some films from our website to teach about this little known piece of history.
