A Remarkable Survival: Escaping a Death Camp at 16 | Thomas Blatt | USC Shoah Foundation
Holocaust survivor, Thomas Blatt, was 16 when he escaped the Sobibór death camp during an uprising organized by Jewish prisoners in 1943. At least 167,000 murders occurred at Sobibór. Only 58 prisoners are known to have survived. In his USC Shoah Foundation testimony, recorded in 1995, Thomas reflects on his life before WWII, living in and escaping a death camp, and life post-war. Thomas served as a technical advisor for the 1987 film, “Escape From Sobibor,” in which he was portrayed by actor Jason Norman.
