KRIMI Hörspiel - Raymond Chandler - KEINE VERBRECHEN IN DEN BERGEN (1980)
Please SHARE + LIKE + SUBSCRIBE + COMMENT + SUPPORT SUMMARY: Raymond Chandler - NO CRIME IN THE MOUNTAINS In this story, Chandler's detective, John Evans, is called to the mountains, to the mountain resort of Puma Point, where someone with a problem urgently wants to see him. Although Evans arrives on time, the meeting can no longer take place. But this is by no means the end of the story; it's only the beginning—in more ways than one. For one thing, it's not about the metropolis of Los Angeles, the "slick city with no more personality than a paper cup," as is usually the case with Chandler, but about the deceptive idyll of a high-altitude lake, where Sheriff Baron claims there is no crime because the mountains offer little incentive for crime and because the mountain people are inherently peaceful. On the other hand, the story isn't about mountain dwellers at all, but rather—it was published in 1941—about Nazi German secret agents attempting to establish the conditions for successful subversive activity in the United States. Sheriff Baron is ultimately forced to confront the fact that crime does indeed exist in his Southern California mountains, but it's a crime he never imagined, unlike the petty brawls or drunk driving incidents he usually handles with ease. Raymond Chandler (1888–1959), along with Dashiell Hammett, is considered one of the originators of the modern, realistic crime novel. He only began writing at the age of 45, after the Great Depression had halted his career as an industrial manager, initially writing crime stories that appeared in magazines like Black Mask and Detective Monthly, and later novels and screenplays.
