MISSING: She Vanished with Her Dog… 2 Years Later, Her Twin Is Still Searching

Jonett Wanner disappeared from West Fargo on July 11, 2023 at approximately 2:30 p.m., vanishing alongside her vehicle. Investigators discovered evidence of self-harm within her residence, including razor blades and towels, which indicates a possible mental health crisis at the time of her disappearance. Jonett’s established behavioral patterns show she habitually took only her wallet and her dog on short outings, leaving behind her phone and other essentials. To date, neither Jonett nor her car has been found. Because she vanished along with her vehicle, the search strategy centers on the possibility that the car may have entered the water. Family and friends noted that she frequently took her dog and her wallet on short, local outings but rarely traveled far without other personal essentials. This information directs the search toward accessible boat ramps, park access points, and river inlets where a vehicle could easily enter the water within a short distance from her home. As the search expands north of the subdivision, the team transitions to larger river systems and boat ramps that offer deeper water and more complex underwater environments. During a scan of one of these northern ramps, the sonar identified a large, rectangular object resting upside-down on the riverbed. The object’s dimensions and profile closely resembled a large SUV, which initially raised hopes for a breakthrough in the case. After deploying a dive team to investigate the vehicle, it was confirmed to be a Chevy Blazer from the 1980s or 1990s. The vehicle showed signs of being underwater for many years and was ultimately ruled out as having any connection to Jonett Wanner’s disappearance. While the discovery did not provide the resolution the team was looking for, it served as a critical test of their equipment’s accuracy in low-visibility conditions. The team contacts local law enforcement to inform them of the sunken vehicle. Police are dispatched to the scene and the team meets to discuss a recovery plan. A decision is made that the local dive team will use the recovery as training, and the pull would happen later that week. The team ends the day clearing one last stretch of the river with 2 access points. A couple targets were identified, but shortly ruled out. The searched is wrapped up near a waterfall and boat ramp where the waters were too shallow. The search for Jonett Wanner remains open and unresolved.
