One House: contemporary architecture in Sicily by Atelier Iraci Architetti

One House - Iraci Architetti - Acireale (CT) The design of the One House villa, located in Acireale, Sicily, is based on a geometric interplay of recessed and overlapping volumes, creating an elongated and light form. The main challenge was to maintain slender structures to avoid disproportion, ensuring the project's detail and harmony from the design stage. Located in an area offering 360° views of Mount Etna, the sea, and Taormina, the villa features a prominent entrance that conveys a sense of infinity. The living space is designed to expand outward through large windows, establishing a seamless connection with the pool and the surrounding landscape. The house is spread across three levels: a ground floor, a basement, and an upper floor. The ground floor includes the kitchen and private living area, with the dining area centrally located between the private and reception areas. The master bedroom, perfectly oriented toward the sea, ensures privacy and benefits from morning sunlight. The basement houses play areas, a cellar, a second service kitchen, a gym, and a social area. The layout of the spaces allows for independent use, also connected by an external staircase. The furnishings are largely custom-made, with careful formal and material research reflecting the shared vision of the designers and clients. Travertine, used both horizontally and vertically, provides aesthetic continuity, while seismic elements allow for large overhangs, ensuring optimal sun exposure. The lighting, both natural and artificial, has been carefully designed to optimize living comfort. The subtropical garden complements the villa's design with a selection of refined species, creating a perfect harmony between architecture and nature.
