Yakuza 3 Remastered should have been Yakuza Kiwami 3. Releasing after remakes: Yakuza Zero, Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza 3 misses out on the special treatment the remakes received. The Yakuza Remastered Collection shows the Yakuza series’ age with Yakuza 3, proving that age comes with the cost of outdated gameplay quality. That’s why Yakuza 3 Remastered should have been Yakuza Kiwami 3. Amongst the recent high quality releases of Yakuza Zero, Yakuza Kiwami , Yakuza Kiwami 2, Judgement and even Yakuza Like a Dragon; Yakuza 3 Remastered highlights the downsides to strictly remastering games over remaking them. Yakuza 3's gameplay may have worked in 2009, but thanks to the constant evolving standards and advancement of video games, what worked then doesn't necessarily work now. While Yakuza 3's story still holds up today as a dramatic action-packed and wholesome tale - as expected of any Yakuza game - it's gameplay (left untouched) affects the total impact the game originally did in 2009. That being said, as with all Yakuza games, it's flaws are blurred by it’s consistent presentation, overwhelming charm, and a story matched by no other; and that reason alone is why Yakuza 3 Remastered - despite all of it’s problems - is still worth playing.
