Tight shoulders make it hard to maintain form in a Back Squat. That’s because a big part of the Back Squatting technique is gripping the barbell just outside of your shoulder width while keeping the elbows up. This cue helps to optimize posture and form. A commonly overlooked issue is a lack of shoulder mobility which makes it hard to grip the bar. This issue must be addressed before attempting the barbell back squat.
