UPDATE In the midst of a police operation against extortionists, the National Police arrested a wanted individual who attempted to evade an identity check at the Caja de Agua station in the San Juan de Lurigancho district. ORIGINAL NOTE Agents from the Emergency Division (DIVEME) of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) are conducting an identity check operation on drivers a few meters from the Caja de Agua station in the San Juan de Lurigancho district. In an interview with Buenos Días Perú, PNP Colonel Edward Vidal, head of DIVEME, stated that this work is carried out continuously to fully identify those apprehended with criminal records or outstanding warrants and transfer them to the station to then be brought before the court to face the criminal proceedings against them. Suspect captured in worker's murder According to Vidal, these identity check operations led to the capture of a hitman with several prior convictions who was implicated in the murder of a worker. The suspect was arrested while in a vehicle in the Las Flores area. He tried to get out of the vehicle, but was captured by agents of the Los Halcones unit. PNP strategies in public transportation The head of DIVEME mentioned that the PNP has a strategy with three functions that are carried out permanently for public transportation.
