Episode 1330 Stan (Bernard Youens) complains that giving up cigarettes has left him dizzy and unable to face climbing ladders but Hilda (Jean Alexander) thinks he’s just trying to skive from work. Ray (Neville Buswell) also struggles to resist smoking. With the VAT inspector due, Len (Peter Adamson) decides to chase the overdue payment from Weatherfield Plastics himself. Janet (Judith Barker) buys sweets for Peter (Linus Roache) and Susan (Wendy Jane Walker) who are coming down from Scotland. Rita (Barbara Knox) jokes to Hilda about “withdrawal symptoms,” making her worry about Stan getting dizzy. Alf (Bryan Mosley) and Annie (Doris Speed) discuss plans for Weatherfield’s proposed town-twinning visit with Charleville-Mézières. Ken (Bill Roache) arrives with Peter and Susan who are introduced to Janet. Janet breaks the ice by suggesting a trip to the playground. Ken notices she’s naturally good with Peter and Susan and lets her take them on her own. VAT officer David Spencer (Robert Hartley) begins inspecting the yard’s books and Len is called back from the Rovers to answer about the missing £2000 from Weatherfield Plastics. The outing is cut short when Peter becomes ill after eating two of Janet’s puddings. Len is furious as David Spencer explains that although Weatherfield Plastics still owe the firm £2,000, The yard is still legally required to pay £204.60 in VAT because the invoice has already been raised.
