Episode 544 Len (Peter Adamson) frees Jerry (Graham Haberfield) from the scaffolding and calls for an ambulance. Ena (Violet Carson) reluctantly agrees to help Dennis (Philip Lowrie) write his music. Brewery officials begin investigating Jerry’s accident and questions are raised about why Len was not working alongside Jerry at the time. Jed (Kenneth Cope) finds premises for his proposed auction business beneath the viaduct. Jim (Barry Keegan) arranges to take Elsie (Pat Phoenix) out to an Irish céilidh. Joss (Glenn Melvyn) confesses to Mr Cunliffe (David Conville) that he and Len had been drinking while they were supposed to be working. Dennis agrees to become Jed’s partner and shares the rent in return for a 50/50 partnership. Upon hearing about Jerry’s accident, Elsie abandons her plans with Jim and heads to see Len. Len admits to Elsie that he is terrified about the extent of Jerry’s injuries. Mr Cunliffe tells Len that the scaffolding was found to be unsafe and he has been sacked from the brewery job.
