"Huxley’s Rule" and the origins of scientific racism
Prof. Dr. Nicolaas Rupke (Washington & Lee Univ. / Göttingen): "Huxley’s Rule" and the origins of scientific racism Talk given at the international symposium "Johann Friedrich Blumenbach and the Culture of Science in Europe around 1800" in Göttingen, April 23rd/24th 2015. Prof. Dr. Nicolaas Rupke rejects the idea that Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752-1840) was the founder of a "scientifically" based racism. Its origins should rather be looked for in the context of Darwinism in Britain and especially in the works of Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895). More information: http://www.blumenbach-online.de
