TRADITIONAL WOODSMAN'S CAMP | Bushcraft Spain Oilskin All-In-One Insulated Poncho: 1 Item, 9 Set-Ups
On this adventure, I use the Bushcraft Spain Insulated (wool/cashmere lining) Oilskin All-in-One Poncho as a bivy/sleeping bag during a traditional woodland camp (it can fit your entire body with your arms in). Configurations: 1. Poncho 2. Tarp 3. Shelter 4. Bivy bag 5. Sleeping bag 6. Blanket 7. Hammock Underquilt 8. Hammock 9. Bough Bed mattress. It was the first day of summer, the summer solstice, and I thought I’d celebrate the longest day of the year out in the woods. This is the first of five configurations that I’ll be exploring in future adventures, putting each setup to the test in the wilderness. Clad in my trusty Féileadh Beag (Kilt), I make fire using traditional flint and steel, cook a pork roast over the fire on a spit, create a woodland bed from ferns, sheepskin, and reindeer skins, and use my new 0.6 L Fire Maple kettle to brew both camp tea and coffee — it’s made of heavy gauge steel and is certainly a contender for my Eagle Products kettle. I realise this late, but when you turn the handle sideways, the lid lifts out perfectly, and when you put it back up, it locks the lid so it doesn’t fall out whilst you’re pouring, genius. I also attempt to make a camp stool, but it didn’t quite work out as I got very hungry and didn’t properly wrap and frap the lashings. I don’t need it anyway. Maybe I’ll have another go in the future. Along the way, a few deer friends pay a quiet visit, adding to the atmosphere. Of Note: I’m only a couple of kilometres from the main road and rail, so you may hear the din of planes, trains and automobiles in the background. Please excuse. It’s been a drought in this area this year because last year it was running like a stream. As you can see, it’s all dried up. To spend. The Birch tree that I got the birch bark from was dead standing. I certainly wouldn’t peel like that from a live viable tree. Bushcraft Spain sent me this poncho for free to test. This is not a paid review, and all opinions are my own. Poncho dimensions 200 × 150 cm (approximately 79 × 59 inches or 6 ft 7 in × 4 ft 11 in) Materials: Exterior Shell: 100% cotton canvas with Bushcraft Spain's signature heavy-duty oilskin finish Interior insulation :80% Wool 20% Cashmere My total pack weight was about: 30 lb = 13.61 kg without food 35 lb = 15.88 kg with food I almost never carry water because I can always find it. Also, as you can see, I’ve gained a belly. Well, I haven’t been running as much due to my plantar fasciitis, and I’ve been incorporating a lot of meat into my diet, as you can see. :) If you enjoy traditional bushcraft, wild camping, oilskin gear, campfire cooking, and old-style woodland skills, I hope you enjoy the journey. #Bushcraft #TraditionalBushcraft #WoodmansCamp #BushcraftSpain #Oilskin #FlintAndSteel #WildCamping #CampfireCooking #TheLoreOfBushcraft For more content, please Like, Subscribe and Ring that Bell to receive notifications and follow me where I have reviews, announcements and extra content.
