The chapter "The Inevitable Evolution of Genomes within Populations" is part of Theme 1 "The Earth, Life, and the Organization of Life" of the final year of biology and biology program. Knowledge and skills developed in this chapter, according to the official bulletin (official program) 📖: In eukaryotic populations with sexual reproduction, the Hardy-Weinberg theoretical model predicts the stability of relative allele frequencies in a population. However, in real populations, various factors prevent this theoretical equilibrium from being achieved: the existence of mutations, their favorable or unfavorable nature, the limited size of a population (effects of genetic drift), migrations, and sexual preferences. Populations are subject to natural selection and genetic drift. Due to the instability of the biotic and abiotic environment, genetic differentiation necessarily occurs over time. This differentiation can lead to limiting the regular exchange of genes between different populations. All species therefore appear as heterogeneous sets of populations, continually evolving over time. Fundamental concepts: mutation, selection, drift, evolution. Skills: Understand and identify factors that deviate from the theoretical Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, including non-random pairing, selection, and finite population (drift). Extract, organize, and use information on the evolution of allele frequencies in populations. Question the notion of species using modern advances in DNA sequencing.
