WALKING AND WILD CAMPING ON THE ICKNIELD WAY | PART 1: IVINGHOE BEACON TO CHALK HILL | OEX TARP

This is the beginning of a new long distance walk for me, the Icknield Way, one of the oldest routes in Britain, littered with history and scenic views. It stretches for 110 miles across 6 counties, starting from Ivinghoe Beacon Hillfort in Buckinghamshire, to Knettishall Heath near Thetford in Norfolk. As mentioned in previous videos, I plan to over a few years, walk a lap of the south east of England (Norfolk coast, Suffolk coast, Essex coast, Kent coast, Sussex coast, Southhampton to Salisbury, Great Stones Way across Wiltshire, The Ridgeway, Icknield Way, Peddars Way. It all links together. I have already completed a large chunk of it, mainly the East Anglian coastline). The Icknield Way is just a small section of this huge goal. The first section of the way is Ivinghoe Beacon to Chalk Hill, which is 10 miles. I was joined by my mate Richard (we hope to do all the sections together). I plan to only take a tarp and bivvy on this long distance route, no tents, to build my confidence with tarp set ups and test them against various weather conditions. Plus it should help keep the weight down. For this section I used the OEX BUSH PRO tarp and OEX BUSH PRO bivvy. We wild camped on the hill overlooking Dunstable where the Five Knolls Ancient Burial Mounds are located. This first section was absolutely brilliant, what an introduction to the Icknield Way!
