The Joseon Tongsinsa, remembered as the first Korean Wave and a symbol of peace—true to their name meaning "envoys conveying trust"—had deeply concealed differing perspectives and ulterior motives within the records left by the two nations. For the first time on Korean television, the production team covers the Nagoya Hosa Bunko (Tokugawa Bunko Collection) and visits Kobaien, an ink manufacturing workshop with a tradition of over 400 years that presented gifts to the Joseon Tongsinsa in 1711. Furthermore, through the sites of Edo-period woodblock printing and the writings of Toegye Yi Hwang remaining throughout Japan, this program traces the intimate relationship between Confucianism, which originated in Joseon, and Japan's modernization.
