The Sneaky 1-Hand Backhand Drive Nobody Sees Coming (Taught by a 5.8 DUPR)

You don’t see this shot often in pickleball… In this CCC, I’m actually the one learning, as Trang Huynh (5.8 DUPR) breaks down her one-handed backhand drive, one of the most unconventional shots in the game. This isn’t something most players are taught, but when done correctly, it can be incredibly effective. We go through the key mechanics: • Keeping the paddle head up • Getting into a fully closed stance • Using an extreme backhand eastern grip • Generating power through the hips • Using the non-dominant hand for balance Because this shot is so different, it takes a strong understanding of positioning and timing to execute it consistently. We also discuss why this shot isn’t used as widely in pickleball. If you’ve ever been curious about the one-handed backhand in pickleball, or want to see how a top player approaches a non-traditional shot, this breakdown gives you a unique look into high-level mechanics and decision-making.
