Today, the garage treasures take us to the Legends Grand Prix at the Salzburgring. And Oliver Steinmetz introduces us to the legendary Opel Steinmetz Commodore "Jumbo" – the first Group 5 racing car, before Group 5 even existed. The Steinmetz Opel Commodore "Jumbo" was a spectacular racing car from 1973, developed by German tuning pioneer Klaus Steinmetz. The vehicle was based on the Opel Commodore B, but was radically modified and equipped with a powerful 6.0-liter V8 engine from the Opel Diplomat. The "Jumbo" produced over 500 hp at a weight of around 1,020 kilograms – an impressive power-to-weight ratio of around 2 kg per hp. Characteristic features were the extremely wide fenders, the large front and rear spoilers, and the striking side pipes on the flanks, which gave the car an aggressive and distinctive appearance. The Steinmetz Commodore competed in the Interseries, where it caused a sensation with its brute power and extraordinary design.
